Grass-Fed

Grass-fed beef is considered one of the best protein foods around and comes from cows that are raised in open pastures rather than being confined to feedlots. The United States Department Of Agriculture (USDA) has established a standard definition for “grass-fed” claiming it requires continuous access to pasture as well as preventing animals from being given any grains or products made up primarily out of things such as soybean meal during the production process.

Some of the health benefits of grass-fed beef include:

Lower total fat content
More heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids
More omega-6 fatty acid (linolenic acid)
More antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin E

We offer grass-fed as well as grass-fed grain-finished beef at Boggs Cattle Farm. We grain finish our cows to add flavor but understand that people have individual preferences and can cater to their needs.

Grass-Fed Grain-Finished

While there is a large market for farm-raised grass-fed beef, many people prefer our grass-fed grain-finished beef options.

What’s the difference?

We offer our traditional grass-fed beef which is grass-fed all the way from birth up until butchering. The difference with grain-finished is that our cattle are grass-fed until 60-90 days prior to butchering. During these key few months leading up to production, we feed, or “finish” our cattle grain strictly to improve the flavor and marbling.

The grain will improve the taste and produce an overall more flavorful cut of meat. This is more noticeable in our higher-quality cuts of meat such as strips and filets.

Which should you pick?

The choice is entirely up to you and we offer both for the convenience and personal preferences of our customers. Contact us if you have any questions. We would be happy to answer any further questions you may have.
